MY STOLEN FLAG

I was visiting my friend Sue  here and she prompted me with all her beautiful red white and blue posts to post a piece about my stolen flag.

When the first gulf war started Hershey's had a promotion. If you sent in, I believe, fifty individual candy bar wrappers, you got a free full size American flag. All the ladies I worked with in the Peds clinic at the University Hospital joined in. Doctors and nurses and secretary's stopped by with their wrappers. I ordered that flag and she was a beauty. In fact, she was so darn beautiful and large that someone stole her off my front porch in broad daylight! I have never recovered from that!

A few years later my hubby's youngest troubled brother gave us his flag. He acquired it when he was in the U S  Navy and we still have that flag. I suppose it reminds us of better days when John was a whole person. Before the drinking and the drugs took a toll on him.

Perhaps that is why the Lord has let that flag fly in our yard for all these years.

I don't have the flag in its place yet because I am been sick with the headaches and the hub has been trying to get yardwork done before those ninety plus temps hit us full force. But I have a pretty image from goggle I want to share with you.

Happy 4th of July!

How awful! I hate that happened.
I would be willing to eat 50 more Hershey bars and send you my wrappers :-}!!!

I hope that John can get help and pull his life back together before it's too late. So sad, isn't it?

Happy 4th

I can't imagine someone stealing the American Flag from your front porch in broad daylight! That is just awful!

I'm afraid that I haven't been able to get my house decorated for the 4th this year either. I bought those half circle flags that you drap off your front porch a good 3 years ago and I still haven't been able to get those hung. I really thought this year would be the year. I suppose it's not to late to get it done this year.

Hope you are feeling better!

Happy 4th of July!

It's a shame when people come up and steal off your front porch..Nice that it was replaced ..God bless all those who served our country...I have the flag given to me when my husband passed five years ago...much to big for me to display but I have a smaller one out front.
Hope you feel better..headaches are bothersome.

I had someone steel my flag a couple years ago - and then about a week later it appeared in my mailbox in a big brown envelope with a handwritten (in pencil) note that said, "I'm sorry. Please put your flag back up. I Won't never take it again."

And it's been flying for 5 years since then.
