I did not want to miss Alphabe Thursday. I am trying to turn over a clean slate and really watch my eating habits but who in their right mind could ever resist a yummy, gooey wonderfully delicious Whoopie Pie? Tonight I am going to share a recipe I have found that is a family favorite from a collection of recipes that I found.
Hope you like it! If you do share it with everyone you know and make sure you tell Ms. Jenny that I sent you over!
Whoopie Pies
1 18.5 oz. devils food cake mix
5 tablespoons all purpose flour
1 cup of milk
1 cup of white sugar
1 cup of shortening
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1. Prepare the cake mix as directed except using on 3/4 cup of water
Drop batter onto greased cookie sheet or use parchment paper lined cookie sheet into 2 1/2 inch to 3 inch circles. Bake until toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool.
2. To make the filling: In a saucepan combine milk and flour and cook , stirring constantly until it
forms a thick paste. Let cool.
3. In a medium bowl beat sugar and shortening until fluffy. Add vanilla. Add cooled flour mixture
and beat until doubled in volume.
4. Turn the little cakes over on their back. Spoon a dollop of folling onto the little cakes. Add the
second cake to form a sandwich.
You may sprinkle the finished pies with powdered sugar or you may also color the filling to match a birthday party theme or holiday.

Whoopie! That is some pie. I am not a chocolate lover, but sure do know people who would love this. I will have to pass this on to them. Thanks for sharing. Whoopie is one of the best W words ever!
ReplyDeleteWould you believe I have never tried one of these. They are not something you hear about in Northern Canada. They do look good though. I may have to try it for a treat for my three girls. Thanks for sharing.
