Welcome to the "F" addition of Ms. Jenny's weekly learning lesson! I love participating in this alphabet fun! Keep the brain sharp! I like to use my imagination, I always have, so I put my post up and I start thinking about the next letter! It is so much fun!
Let's talk fruitcakes!
Now I have L O V E D Jimmy Buffett since he sang all these silly songs ! He can have a bit of colorful language so please forgive me! I had to share it! If you can not load the video here go to www.youtube.com/.
You either love a fruitcake or hate them! Now I am talking about the holiday cake many receive as a gift! I was visting Suzanne. She is the Colorado Lady who decided to bake her own fruitcake. Her story involved a cookbook she inherited from her grandmother and inside it, she found a recipe for a fruitcake. By the time she bought all the ingredients she said it cost a small fortune! You should visit her and read the story. I was being very clever and I said to her, "Suzanne, why don't you Texas girls buy your fruitcake from Collin Street Bakery in Corsicana, Texas?" She said "I thought they were too expensive until I made my own!" I know about these fruitcakes because I worked with a doctor who was a native of Texas and he bought them for us at Christmas. After a few years he starting bringing us fruit, oranges and grapefruits because that seemed healthier but I always enjoyed those fruitcakes and think I may have to order one one of these days!
I hope your holiday season is fabulous, fun and full of family and friendship! Please visit Jenny and all the participates of Alphabe Thursday!
Those Texas fruitcakes are the best! This year I bought "Assumption Abbey Fruitcakes" made by the Trappist Monks of Ava, Missouri, and they appear to very very good.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I have never tried one! :):):):):):):):):):):)
ReplyDeleteI have never tried one and have no intention of trying it Just the look of it makes me want to gag
ReplyDeleteWe used to get those Texas fruitcakes when we lived in Bavaria but I can't remember who sent them!!
ReplyDeleteI always make my own and just yesterday finished decorating it before we leave for our trip to the U.K.

ReplyDeleteI love Fruitcake ... and I'll even sing for it!!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh.....fruitcakes. I'm not a big fan...but lots of folks are. When I was a kid my family was given a fruitcake by other family members....we never ate it....but kept it as a while elephant gift for Christmas to come. I think the thing finally became moldy after being passed around Christmas after Christmas.

I am definitely one of the lovers of fruit cake. Wish I was having a big slice and coffee with you now. Enjoy the holidays with your family and may things be better for all in the New Year.
ReplyDeleteI definitely have a love hate thing with fruitcake...mostly on the latter end. But my hubs keeps telling me that his mom used to make fruitcake that was divine, to die for, far superior to home made chocolate eclairs or anything else like that and that I should learn to love it (and bake it). His mom stopped making it years ago, but just last night the idea was revived when my sis-in-law told me she has the recipe and we should make some. So, I guess we'll see... ;)
ReplyDeleteI am square in the middle of the hates fruitcake bunch.
ReplyDelete;)
I love a good fruit cake and so does my daughter. Especially if it is soaked in bourbon. All the Jr.High and High kids used to sell Claxton fruitcakes from Claxton Georgia. Mom would buy a couple to support the bands and then she would pour bourban over them, cover them and store them in the back of the fridge. Everyweek she would pull them out and pour more bourbon over them and put them back in the fridge. By the time Christmas rolled around we had some awesome fruitcake! :)
ReplyDeleteI have not tried this yet but since I am a fan of anything sweet, will definitely need to try this soon.
ReplyDeleteNot a big fan of fruitcake but will always give it a try! Good idea for an F post! Hugs, Linda

I had to visit you once I read your post title -- fruitcake! :) I live in Germany, but I still know all the jokes about fruitcakes as Christmas gifts. Frankly, I can't understand that -- I would love to receive one if only to taste it! :)
ReplyDeleteI must be the only one in my family to love fruitcake. Sadly, I can no longer digest nuts and it's very difficult to find a good one without nuts.
