My flag is hanging outside our front yard today! Is yours? Blogger is giving me a fit posting my own photos so I am relying on images from the net!
Yesterday we lost an American favorite, Andy Griffith. Passing away at the age of 86 Andy brought small town America into our homes each week. My Sweets and I still watch the old series as well as many others from that era of great Americana! Rest in Peace Andy!
If you have never seen the video "Waitin' On A Woman" performed by Brad Paisley with guest Andy Griffith you need to see it here or hop over to You Tube and check it out!
The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus (1883)
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
One of my favorite poems about America.
The American Civil War 1861-1865)
Happy Birthday America!
"And I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men(women) who died,
who gave that right to me." Lee Greenwood
"He loves his country best
who strives to make it best." Robert G Ingersoll

ReplyDeleteHappy 4th!
Hello Anne, what a lovely post for the 4th of July. I so feel the same as you about our country.
ReplyDeleteAndy Griffith will be missed. I loved the wonderful show Mayberry because it depicted the way our life used to be. TV today is a mess of reality shows that do not appeal to me. The good old days were really good. I pray for our country daily.
Thank you for your sweet comments on my posts. I have not been able to visit for way too long.
I hope your family is having a wonderful 4th.
Hugs, Jeanne
