My daughter recently came across a photo from 6/15/1928 with my dad and several of the neighborhood fellows. They were all quite young and they were standing in front of Kanob's Pool Hall. The photo is 87 years young so I am going to show you a couple of the copies my hubby made, he tried to lighten them up as one gentleman is standing in the doorway and you can see the light colored shirt of someone standing behind him. I think some of these BoJon fellows were camera shy.
Frances and her second husband John (right) lived in San Jose, California. Here is here a photo of them with Bruce probably sometime before he left for war. Frances was born February 29, 1895 and she passed away September 8, 1979 in Pueblo. She is buried at the Roselawn Cemetery. I believe Bruce passed away 6 October 1941. He entered the U.S. Navy 12 December 1939. He was on the U.S.S. Lexington 13 December 1939. They aircraft carrier was sunk at sea during the battle of the Corral Sea 8 May 1942. There are two USS Lexington's and I believe this one might have carried Bruce to his final mission before he lost his life serving his country.
These earrings came from Yugoslavia. I was the recipient of these beauties when Frances passed away. She was a kind heart. I have seen a few sLOVEnian women wearing these earrings and I wonder if there is any history behind these. I am not even sure where to start researching them. They almost seem like there is a face of a snake or something on these earrings. They are gold and have that French closure on them. I am sorry I could not get a better shot of these. If anyone knows a history behind these please share it with me.

This was my grandmother Cecilia Kralj Steblay's cousin Frances Marjanovich and her son Bruce F. Pavlin. Bruce was an Electricians Mate 1C in the U.S. Navy and he perished in WWII. He was the only child of this lovely strong willed lady.

I love looking at old photos. I was reading your post and remembered being on the USS Lexington. It's in Corpus Christi, Texas and now a tourist attraction. It has be the second one and was built during the war.

ReplyDeleteI love your photos. I remember the war. We lost a lot of our friends and relatives in that war. I remember the celebrations when the war ended. That September I started first grade. I wish I had photos but I don't.

ReplyDeleteI have some information for you about Bruce Frank Pavlin. He was on USS California when it was hit during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was transferred to USS Lexington (CV-2) (not the newer Lexington that is on display in Corpus Christi) for a short time, and then to the submarine USS Amberjack (SS-219). Bruce was lost with his shipmates when Amberjack was sunk by depth charge attack on or about February 16, 1943.
