I can never find a good photo of my lazy Mister Kitty. a/k/a Tiger. He is forever sleeping or eating. So I started searching for the top rescues out there. I figured there are many people who want to help homeless animals. Here is the one no kill shelter I found animalleague.org
I was shocked to learn that so many shelters euthuanize kittens! I can not believe home many innocent animals are put down to make room for more!
I think it is a good thing that shelters have animals spayed or neutered before releasing them. I had a neighbor that had that old cat, they called her MaMa, but this poor cat had dozens of litters of kittens, and I am not even going to try to think about what happened to those poor kittens. But eventually MaMa disappeared. I am sure she went somewhere quietly to pass away peacefully without having to deal with more kittens her tire old body could not take.
I had tried to reason with the owner of this poor feline. I asked her why she would not spayed her. She always had that same answer, I can not afford it. Ah....baloney! There are vet clinics who offer reasonable rates to help with the financial burden (if you really do have a financial burden). The neighbors phamily lived a nice life. She had a high paying job with benefits. Two of her kids also worked after school and weekends. My personal opinion of pet owners who do not spayed or neuter their pets is, they should not be allowed to own them. I think they should post their phoots at shelters and vet clinics to show how irresponsible they are.
I wish there was an app or a website that would show shelters and clinics that there are people out there who have no business owning pets. If you can not afford to care for a pet it is simple. Do not get one.
It is tough world we live in and I know not all shelters are up front and honest either. My friend was a lifelong animal lover. She has probably 4-5 pets that she rescued. But after her retirement from a long career in journalism. You know, the days when journalists gave you both sides of the story. She became involved in a local shelter where she lives. She was seeing things there that were not on the level and brought it up to the director. The woman who ran this shelter was not the brightest being. She would text my friend threathening her , talking inappropriately and threathening my friend. Fortunately when they went to court those text messages were taken as evidence and the woman was removed from her position.
I was grateful to see how many animals were spared this woman's Cruella DuVille mentality.
Today I am thankful for the people like Brian's mom and dad. Ellen and Lorianne who do their part saving feline fur babies from death . They take in these sweet pets and care for them. I Know there are so many more of you out there. Please comment your own stories and thank everyone who is involved in the rescue and loving care of these pets. You are all so amazing.
No matter what you have to put up with, rescuing an aminal is worth it."
"They don;t choose their fte, open your heart and youe open to homeless cats."
We love cats, and have had many. I totally agree with everything you are saying! Plus neutering can prevent cancer.
ReplyDeleteWell said my friend. I think all folks who abuse our animals should be abused the same way so that they might know how it feels to be on the other end. I have no use for people who abuse animals. It hurts my heart to see an animal hurting. Our cat, Blackie, came and found us one year when Autumn was turning cold. We took him in and he is still here. You have a wonderful day my friend, hugs, Edna B.
ReplyDeleteI have been into animal rescue, primarily cats, for decades. If you have never been into rescue yourself, dear heart, you really have no idea of the magnitude of the problem. Please believe me when I say that there are a LOT worse fates than death, where strays are concerned. A humane euthanasia is the kindest thing a rescue can do, if no homes can be found or the WRONG home is found... for a stray. People looking from the outside in, who have no experience, have difficulty sometimes in understanding that. But believe me, it's the truth.
ReplyDeleteYou said you're sure that your neighbor's cat named Mama went "somewhere to pass away quietly and peacefully". That's a very romantic notion and one that makes her disappearance easier to process in your mind... but probably the opposite was true. Feral outdoor cats never have the luxury of passing away quietly OR peacefully.
After I could not "reason" with your neighbor, I myself would have set out a humane trap someplace where the neighbor couldn't see it and I would have captured Mama and taken her to get spayed myself. Then I would have contacted the rescues & shelters to see if they would take her. I don't try to "reason" with idiots... it's no use! If the neighbor would have asked me if I had seen her, I would have said "No...but I'll keep my eye open for her." and that would have been that.
Thank you for caring!!!!! Love~ Andrea XOXOXO
I don't know how many people I have given lists of low/no cost spay/neuter facilities and they never do anything. Yeah you don't need a license to have kids either. We would love to see a sleeping or eating Mister Kitty!
ReplyDeleteWe agree with all that kitty stuff and any place that kills animals should never be called a shelter. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteIt should have been about MaMa and not I can't afford it. I'm with you.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous Thankful Thursday, Anne. Love and hugs. ♥♥♥
Breaks my heart, Anne. I totally agree, there are people who don't deserve to own a precious fur-baby... they should be stopped by whatever means necessary.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the shout out. I completely agree that anyone that doesn't spay/neuter should not be allowed to have pets. My state has been programs to help with cost and any ferals in traps are fixed for $40 , including rabies shot /flea treatment and dewormer. XO
ReplyDeleteThis is why i volunteer at the shelter. Yes, it should be about taking care of the animals, always.
