9:40 P.M. The End of the Life of A Dear Doggy

Tonight at 9:40 P.M. MDT Tinkerbell our little poodle was losing a fighting battle with age and pain and she softly took that step out of this world into doggy heaven.  She was having difficulty breathing and she was crying in pain. We rushed her to the vet and she had an x ray revealing several broken ribs and fluid filling her lungs. The emergency surgery would have cost $4,000 and they did not feel she would survive. So my brave pooh girl held Tink in her arms as they sent her out of this life.

I am so sad. I am glad I wrote my silly post today for my Alphabe Thursday because it made me smile and now I want to cry. The week was difficult. A very dear and estranged friend Michelle, age 47, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday. I will blog about Michelle soon.

Monday we will celebrate the 14 years Tinkerbell lived with us. The day she moved into our lives she climbing into our bed and when my husband was ready to retire he looked up and Tink was on his pillow looking at him as if to say "What? I feel safe here!"

We are sad because we could not afford  to take her ashes home with us. They told us they would mix them with other pets and spread them in the mountains. So we are trying to find some peace with it. The bill was outrageous for oxygen, the x ray , morphine and the shot to put her down as well as the cremation. But we did what we could afford to do and we know our little doggy dear is at peace. I am posting a poem here and then I will sign off. God Bless You  all!

      The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

  12. I can't read the poems as our own loss is still so fresh but I did read your post.

My gut told me something was terribly wrong but I am surprised at the broken ribs. Poor frail little baby :-(

Know I care and understand Anne. I will be praying God's peace covers you.

Tink will like old Henry up in Heaven. He was always so gentle and cuddly with our little dogs. They will be the best of friends!

    HUGS

  16. I am so sorry to come in here and read of your loss. My heart is breaking for all of you. On the bright side, just think of romping thru the beautiful mountains with lots of companions by your side, playing and barking up a storm. That's sounds like a great afterlife to me. You are in my heart and I hope your pain doesn't last long, but gets replaced with wonderful memories you will carry forever, Char

  17. Hi Anne, I posted to you on facebook last night..needed to gather my thoughts sweet friend.
We knew it was coming, it doesn't make it any easier does it..But Tink is whole and healthy and I am in agreement with Parsley and Svenja, I think Tink, Henry and Blümchen are all hanging out along with my Missy, Daisy, Casey, Sandy and Lindley, and all the other pets who have passed before us..
Each day gets a little bit better, keep the good memories..love you
