Hi! If there were an award for being late I would win it! Work happens, phamily happens.
I have a great post to write tonight. But I can not find the picture of this cute little hamster my middle daughter owned for five whole years!
Cocoa was a golden hamster. We started out getting Cocoa because my daughter babysat the school hamster one weekend. She loved the little fur ball so she convinced us to buy her one! Oh my goodness! It turned into a five year long love affair with hamsters and we are experts today and could write a book!
Those furry little critters had better housing conditions then we did! We had so darn many hamsters at one time that I was sure I was setting the profit margin for Petsco and Pets Mart!
But this is dedicated to little Cocoa. She was the ultimate favorite hamster pet my daughter had when she was younger. Hamsters have a relatively short life span about 1-3 years but Cocoa lived for five years. Our daughter was so patient with her and she taught her to walk up her arm. That critter sat on her shoulder watching after school cartoons and snacking on fresh veggies. She was a wonderful little hamster and she brought a lot of love to our kids. When she passed away we had a royal funeral for her and she is buried in the backyard of a home we owned long ago. Cocoa was certainly a one of a kind pet hamster and we all remember her fondly.
I hope you will join the Tuesday's Show and Tail and please stop by here so you can thank Angela for hosting this fun Tuesday post.
I can not find my pictures of Cocoa to put up here this evening but here is a sweet google image I wanted to share with you.
These little hamsters look awfully cute and cozy. But be careful of keeping two together. One is usually male and the other female. I am sure you know the rest of that story! But let me give you some simple advice if you decide to own a golden hamster . When you purchase a hamster and bring it home if it is a female she will go to work setting up her house. If it is a male he will get settled in, scratch his head and make a mess and take a nap! That is how you can tell which one is which!
I hope you enjoyed my post today. Have a wonderful week and come back soon.
thanks for your comment on my blog about the cats. your hampstr story is cute. it's about taking care and loving something although it's not human. our pets are special and give us great times and memories. Rose
ReplyDeleteThis is such a sweet story about a much loved pet. I've never been a hamster fan as everyone I've ever picked up has bitten me, but I love rats and guinea pigs and had them for years along with the dogs, cats, horses, etc. we've had over the years.
ReplyDeleteHamsters are cute little things, and it's a tribute to you and your daughter's love that little Cocoa lived such a long life. Linda
I'm glad that you shared your hamster with us this week! I haven't ever had one before. Cocoa must had been taken care of very well to have lived that long! That is funny what you said about how to tell the difference between the two! lol Sounds just like how it is with men and women too! lol hahaha hehehe
ReplyDeleteTuesdays' Show & Tail!

Cute. The hamsters I've been around BITE but it sounds like yours was nice.
ReplyDeleteNever had hamsters but your Cocoa sounds so sweet. I think having pets is great for children. Have a great day Anne!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Anne Sweetie...
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful share today. I love little hamsters. My kids never had them, but we have had many dealings with them through the grandkids. Some sweet, some biters.
They are so cute though, and I love watching them run in the little balls. They are really quite entertaining.
Hope you have a gorgeous day sweetie. I keep your DH and his family in my prayers.
Much love, Sherry
Sounds like your Cocoa was golden in more than one way.
ReplyDelete:)
I know what happens when you have a couple Gerbils... I imagine the same thing happens with Hampsters - the "s" becomes a lot of "s"'s!
Too cute about how to tell their sex. LOL!
Anne,
ReplyDeleteI loved this post and now thankfully I can tell which kind of hamster we will have based on their ability to work in their homes. Love it!

Oh my goodness - what a lovely story about your hamster - we have not had such nice ones. sandie
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet post. I had a hamster named Happy that I loved. He would play peekaboo with me behind an opened umbrella set in the floor. Post a pic of Cocoa when you find it!

What a nice story about Cocoa. Five years is a long time for a hamster.
