The Man I Prayed For
Dear God, I prayed, all unafraid
(as we’re inclined to do),
I do not need a handsome man
but let him be like You;
I do not need one big and strong
nor yet so very tall,
nor need he be some genius,
or wealthy, Lord, at all;
but let his head be high, dear God,
and let his eye be clear,
his shoulders straight, whate’er his state,
whate’er his earthly sphere;
and let his face have character,
a ruggedness of soul,
and let his whole life show, dear God,
a singleness of goal;
then when he comes
(as he will come)
with quiet eyes aglow,
I’ll understand that he’s the man
I prayed for long ago.
Dear God, I prayed, all unafraid
(as we’re inclined to do),
I do not need a handsome man
but let him be like You;
I do not need one big and strong
nor yet so very tall,
nor need he be some genius,
or wealthy, Lord, at all;
but let his head be high, dear God,
and let his eye be clear,
his shoulders straight, whate’er his state,
whate’er his earthly sphere;
and let his face have character,
a ruggedness of soul,
and let his whole life show, dear God,
a singleness of goal;
then when he comes
(as he will come)
with quiet eyes aglow,
I’ll understand that he’s the man
I prayed for long ago.
Poem by Ruth Graham Bell
I love this poem. It reminded me so much of my sweet hubby I shared it at my social media account last year. I am re sharing it there and here too.
I love all the photos I have of us through the years. I would not trade one moment we shared for all the money or fame in the world. I am happy.
This is my share for Thankful Thursday eventually I will remember Brian hosts this meme and Sandee hosts Feline Friday. These two are sweethearts for sharing all the goodness with all of us.
Billy Graham always said he admired his wife. While he was on the road she was at home raising the kids. I think she did a splendid job.
A final note before I sign off. Did you know that in the country if Vietnam a person has to have a certificate from a doctor stating they are in good mental health in order to be married? Now I am curious about their marriage stats and divorce too. Have a blessed day.
Terrific words and wonderful photos too. Thanks for joining the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteI am thankful for my husband too. I would trade him for anything. We two are very lucky gals.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous Thankful Thursdy, honey. Love you. ♥
Oh, how I wish I'd been this wise years ago!
ReplyDeleteYou two exhibit the best kind of example for your children, and theirs!
