A TREMENDOUS LOSS/ FELINE FRIDAY/ SCRIPTURE

Diann Leigh LaBell-Huffaker passed away March 1, 2024. There will be a Celebration of Life when the lilac's bloom.  She was the most delightful blogger (The Thrifty Groove), thrift shopper, purse and tea cup and teapot collector. She loved to travel with her husband Troy, who is a long distance truck driver. She also created many beautiful table settings with her thrift store finds.

Diann had a kind heart. I loved her shares about dinner at her dad's after her mom passed away. Her dad was a great cook and had his three children & their families over . Many of us joked with Diann that we wanted to be adopted by her dad Harvey.

Her obituary is at Martensen Family Funeral Homes. It is a great loss. She always replied to messages even when they were traveling cross country. Her obituary said, in lieu of flowers, please do an act of kindness for others in memory of Diann.

I am going to miss her as she was always so upbeat and sweet. She last posted at social media February 28, 2024. They were having dinner with friends and she always shared the places they ate and all the fun they had.

I am so saddened and shocked at her passing. She was 60 years old. But she loved her mom Janice so much and her loss was a shock for their family. I am sure Dianne in enjoying the company of her mom. My thoughts & prayers go out to Troy and her dad Harvey and her two brothers, and all who loved her.

It takes courage to be kind.

Loved you Diann and will miss you very much.

I think I am going to attempt to plat another lilac bush. Diann was a Master Gardener. So I am going to give it one more try and hope she is shining down on that beautiful, fragrant plant. Rest easy Diann, may the angels help you with your heavenly garden.

Ellen and Lorianne shared these Friendly fill In's. Ellen created the first two and Lorianne the second two. Thanks ladies.

RANDOM POST & WORDLESS WEDNESDAY

Today I had the pleasure of doing my grocery shopping with my grandson Colton and his nearly 4 year old girl, Shea.  We were having fun, going up and down the aisles with our two carts at the local Walmart Marketplace.  We spent lots of money there! When it came time to check out, there were no cashiers, only self check out.  We had spent 30 minutes filling our carts! No, Nada, No Way, Sorry Charlie, were we going to use self check-out! First of all, it is not designed for large grocery orders! So as we watched four "old" broads, ok, I am old too but never allowed a patient to see me shooting the breeze at work, while they were waiting to be helped! As they stood there, having a morning coffee or hen party, the mean one, who wears the biggest 1963 prom queen bouffant hairdo and stands like a statues at the front of those self-check-outs with the meanest sour face I have ever seen in my lifetime! Perhaps, you think I am being very mean! No not at all. If your job is to "watch: the customers as if you work for a government agency, smile once and awhile or find a different job. She makes no attempt to help others but relies on the other three hens in her party to go help customers while she stands like a stone sculpture! She is now reading my lips as I say to my grandson, "if no one is going to help us at a regular check stand then we can leave these carts and shop elsewhere" .Another employee is coming down the main aisle with her job, which entails carrying all these pre ordered groceries to  customers, sitting outside in their cars waiting. I interrupt her to ask if she knows if any regular check checkers are available to help us with our $100 plus carts filled with groceries. She yells, hey are one of you going to open a check stand to help large order customers? The prom queen tells two of them to skaddle and get a check stand opened.

The one gal, who had a stroke, I know, because she once told me as she thanked me for leaving my heavy items (i.e. 40 count bottled water) in my cart. She helps us, but you can tell, she ain't happy about it! My grandson is filling his groceries in the reusable bags we each brought to the store.  Shea is cheerfully asking for more stuff at the checkout stand, you know, candy bars, gum and mints all presented there for small eyes to spy out!

It is now my turn and Colton continues to bag my groceries with my bags. She thanks us and we head to the car. An elderly gent is stopping in the middle of the road. My grandson sees another older gent on the ground. He and the other guy race to the man's aid. I am watching two carts full of groceries and our most precious cargo, Miss Shea! The man tells them he has had 9 knee surgeries and his knee gives out on him. He is a tall man, about 6'4"! As Colton and the other guy pick him up he thanks them and they help him into his car.

Life is hard, often you deal with Prom Queens and other assorted people who hate helping others. Yet seeing that older gent and my grandson scramble to aid a man on the asphalt, I was very grateful how there are still some of us, who were, "raised right"!

At home, I get all groceries put away and my sweetheart calls me. It  is now the noon hour and he is at lunch. I tell him this story and he says he just read that Walmart is doing away with self check out in California and Colorado! Sad as it is that we live in a state turning into California with the notion that everything is free, no laws pertains to certain people and the rest of us can like it or lump it! My husband says, Walmart is tired of losing money because of theft! Go figure!

I can drive over to the neighborhood where our son Jeremy and his wife Brittany live. It is a brand new area and the King Soopers store is new and filled with anything your heart desires from pharmacy, clothing, groceries and bath towels and wine, oh yes, lots of wine! But the different there is that dozens of people checking you out cashiers are open and most of them manned by teenagers! These are children raised right. They know making $20 an hour to check out real live people is a blessings, so they treat us with respect. I love that store, but sometime I can not get the bargains like Walmart has. Other times Kings is the very best because they are very well stocked. Plus their producee and fresh meat and cheese departments are top of the line.

Life is hard, I hear my mothers sweet voice inside my head. She would always tell me that and say, you need to pray harder. So I try.

"But if anyone does not provide for his own, especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and it worse than a nonbeliever. " 1 Timothy 5:8

“In spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart. I simply can’t build up my hopes on a foundation consisting of confusion, misery, and death. I see the world gradually being turned into a wilderness, I hear the ever approaching thunder, which will destroy us too, I can feel the sufferings of millions and yet, if I look up into the heavens, I think that it will all come right, that this cruelty too will end, and that peace and tranquility will return again.” Anne Frank

Soup and a Sandwich?

You are very welcome here at Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 where we ask you 4 questions each week in hopes of encouraging blogging and learning more about other bloggers through their answers.

Once again  if you have ideas for topics leave them in comments here or on my blog.

Campbells has their beautiful factory  in Camden, New Jersey.

1. What is your favorite sandwich? What kind of bread, roll.. toasted or not? Butter: salted or sweet?
Turkey, Avocado, Provolone cheese on Sourdough Bread, mayo and mustard with lettuce and tomato too.

2. Do you have a favorite soup? Do you make homemade soup often? What kind?  Tomato or Tomato Basil and Mushroom Soup

What's your favorite store bought soup? I like homemade soup but will buy Campbell's tomato or tomato basil soup.

3. What kind of cheese should be on a grilled cheese sandwich and should it be served with tomato soup or some other flavor ? American, Cheddar, Provolone, take your pick/

4. Is it a Hoagie, a Sub, a Zeppelin, a Grinder, or a Hero or maybe a Dagwood?   What's on it? Oil.. vinegar, onions, peppers, mayo? We make subs at our house, lots of roast beef, turkey and ham with cheddar cheese, American cheese, Mozzarella slices or Provolone or Pepper Jack  Cheese. We usually buy some sub rolls at the bakery. Mayo & mustard for me with pickles, sliced tomatoes and lettuce. We do oil on Italian subs.

Thanks for dropping by!

HAPPY TUESDAY

I am all over the place today! So is this blog post and my other blog

HAPPY TUESDAY

My blog posts are wild & crazy today. Sort of like me and the weather here. At least the weather is trying to warm up.

Having just been on a plane trip, I can relate to Maxine!  She makes me happy and I do Sandee loves her too so this is for Sandee and everyone who loves Maxine.

Nick and Colton are heading to Chicago for a quick trip tomorrow. I think they just went out to lunch as Colton was picking up Harrison from school.  Nick was going to a late lunch with them today. But Nick had plans to visit his friend Isaac  from his college days and Colton decided to join him. They are staying for two nights and plan to eat all the Chicago favorites. I am praying for safe travels. But at least here, the weather is good.

Noelle returned from a quick trip to visit our new grandson in Western NY. He turns 3 months old today. Hannah and Jake are private so no photos but picture Brody & Blake and some of the silly faces you have seen on them. Yeah, they are all related !

Found at Pinterest from an etsy artist, love this sweet lamb wishing us an early Happy Easter.

FRIENDLY FILL IN'S

Friendly Fill In's Lorianne is hosting last Friday's Friendly Fill In answers. Ellen is taking a blogging break as her sweet feline girl Joanie has gone tot he Rainbow Bridge. My thoughts & prayers are with her. Those losses are so hard.  Ellen did input the first two questions and Lorianne the second two.

1. I refuse to spend more than ______________for ______________.

2. I am not ashamed to admit____________________.

3. I've been obsessed with ______________lately.

4. When someone tells me _____________, I ________________.

My answers:

1. I refuse to spend more than $100 on groceries each week. It is getting very difficult not to go over.

2. I am not ashamed to admit I love pink and collect everything I can find, in pink!

3. I've been obsessed with reading lately.

4. When someone tells me a secret, I keep it to myself.  I am a talkative person by nature, but I am also honest and trustworthy.

Feline Friday

These two look like my boy, although he has amber colored eyes.

In a perfect feline world, this would be his phamily. It would be a world where these fur babies would not have to go to the Rainbow Bridge and would leave forever as long as the world went on with us, it is a happy thought I have when there is loss in this ole world.

I will end this very late post with this

Thankful Thursday

 Thankful Thursday

I know I have been missing here. We are all well. We had a wonderful trip to Western New York to see our new grandson. I can't post his phots as Hannah & Jake are very private. But boy oh boy, is he a cutie pie. They live on a nice property so the quietness and the nature all around was so peaceful and relaxing. It was a quick trip and we were thankful to be able to travel there. They will come visit this summer and of course our new little grandson will be bigger and probably crawling around. He is a joyful child nd he has two of the best parents.

Our flight was uneventful except for a passenger two rows in front of us on the other side, had a seizure and his wife stood up screaming for help. A lady who was a doctor quickly came to their aid as well as two nurses on board.  The lady Darlene sitting next to me was a retired nurse. I think attendants should have some knowledge to be able to get help although I imagine if they were medical personnel they might not be working at the airlines. Avery & I prayed are were grateful he was doing ok once he got some juice and food.  Very thankful for those folks who helped. at one point someone was yelling get the pilot but I don't think he could have been much help!

The weather was cool and rainy but we had planned to stay at the house with the kids so we really enjoyed our selves. Noelle is heading there tomorrow. I wish I could stow away with her. Thankful we can all get together.

Our two grandsons here we able to spend time with us last weekend. Brody always picks grandpa as his team mate and Blake and I play basketball. Oh my goodness, we slept well that night and rested into the rest of our weekend. Busy boys. They start their baseball season next month. How did they grow so quickly? Time moves swiftly. I LOVE sports and especially baseball. My dad would be so proud of them. Blake is my little numbers guy as he already does division and knows multiplication. We are thankful he may be able to get into a Math class as he is way ahead of everyone in pre k and he loves his numbers! Brody may need his tonsils removed so prayers are always welcome.  Those boys and their big sister Addy are such a joy.

The boys were at baseball practice. Brody wanted a baseball bag for his birthday so we bought him one.  Blake's birthday is in the summertime so his mom and dad bought his.

THANKFUL!

Some days there are grumpy kitties and other times, who knows! This boy is happy to be at my side but he sure does not like me to share my attention elsewhere. He was mad I turned on the radio! Yeah, we are old school. Leo was the only sweetheart who would let me song to him. I was never sure if he liked my singing or he felt bad that I was simply looney. hahaha I sure miss that handsome boy.

THANKFUL

4. If I could only listen to one song for the rest of my life, I would choose_______.

1. The 2020 pandemic taught me the government has immense power over the people.

2. A game I enjoy playing is Rummy with my husband.

3. My perfect world would include Heaven.

4. If I could only listen to one song for the rest of my life. I would choose "Blessed Assurance".

I have been thinking about Mister Kitty who turns 11 this April 30 2024. He has gone through a long list of possible names! We originally thought he was a girl, oh well that was wrong! We called her Tiger Lily, him Tiger, then he became Mister Kitty as he believes he is the "Mister" of this domain where he lives or rather rules! These are a few of my favorite photos of him.

Here he is in a all his cuteness back in 2013. He came to us on June 21,2013. He was 52 days old! Oh don't let that cuteness or these big green eyes make you say "awwwww"! He is a troublemaker, a rascal, a dickens and I often have to say "What in the Sam Hill do you think you are doing"?

When I took this beautiful photo of him, I realized he was truly photogenic. If only he would mind just once in a while.

Roxanne came to us in December 2010 just around Christmas. Hannah's former beau Markus found her shivering in an open field. Had he not scooped her up and shared her with all of us, she would have been, well, I shudder to think, in a wide open area! She passed away from what appeared to be cancer similar to Ovarian cancer. She was a delightful little petite pup and charmed each one of us. She charmed her way into this kittens heart and he never left her but always protected her. She passed away Novemver 3, 2013 and that boy sat and howled as she was taken out of the house. He is, if nothing else, a true friend.

I need to check in on him, sleeping on the love seat on this cold and snowy February day. He is, if nothing else, greatly loved, protected by us and kept healthy, well fed and entertained.

HAPPY TUESDAY AND MAXINE CRACKS ME UP

 Happy Tuesday

My JOYFUL SERVING will continue all year long, God willing. Harrison, Brody and Shea were up to something. It was Easter Brunch Day. Those little sweethearts/ A second grader, a soon to be first grader and a pre schooler in 2024. Oh My! I am crying happy tears. That numbers guy, B2 a/k/a/ Blake was no where to be found. Probably crunching numbers with his headphones on to block all the noisiness out. Brody trying to play Rebekah;s guitar. It was as tall as he was a ew years ago. Nowi is such a grown up version of himself. Oh my heart....Then my oldest girl Noelle. It has been a long hard journey for her since losing her other half Roger in 2022. Sometime a girl needs her momma or perhaps the momma needs her girl.

As I sort through so many photos! Tarrah , I know you won't believe me, she is momma to five little kids. Well...technically I suppose it is not true any longer. Jayden who is 12 passed me up a long while ago, he is so tall! Michael is also sprouting up like a tall corn stalk! When did those two grow up?  Sweet Mollie peeking as she tries to catch a nap. She is "Nicky's girl". She waits for him to come & go from work. Follows him around like a little shadow. Shea with Mommy Jacey. Harrison, that boy will get you and capture your heart every time with that smile, that perfect hair and that twinkling wink in those baby blues. I am very H A P P Y and overjoyed!

My mom always said God was good to me. Giving me a good husband and healthy children. Life is not easy but it sure has lots of sweet perks!

Since Beverly stopped doing the Pink Saturday blog hop I have felt sad but I save all the pinks I can still find. How about Maxine and her "friends with benefits"???? That girl, yeah, that night driving is hard when you get older.

A few prayer requests, pray for Bobby. He is a friend of Rebekah's going through a rough time. Prayer for Alisha and family during the loss of her dad. Prayers for Alex, also dealing with some hard stuff. Riley & Alaina too, sweet girls who need prayer., thank you

Aw...Mondays Love is... Sparks

 Aw... Mondays

First thing I noticed, I usually had put up Love is... on Monday's but accidentally put up Maxine on  My Tatas Cottage blog. So I came here to add my post and add Love is... also. Tomorrow I may do two Maxine's to make up for my error.

My big brother boy B1 haha a/k/a Brody. He was taking a shot at the hoop. This was July, 2022. Oh my how he has grown.  Saturday he challenged B2  a/k/a Blake and I to a game with him and grandpa. Well, they skunked us. This kid....is something else. He yells at his bro, that was traveling, you know you can not travel! hahaha.....,my little partner is more interested in numbers than anything. What a pair those two are. We needed a nap before our trip to Casa Bonita which I talked about on my other blog.  This child is a walking sports stats guy like his daddy and our younger son, his uncle. He is so animated. You would crack up watching any sports game on TV or in person with him!

This is my number 1 numbers guy! You need help with large numbers, he is your guy!  He is always wanting to do things that involved numbers.

MI MADRE

Noelle and I at the Trans Siberian Orchestra in November, What a beautiful night that was. Very blessed we could go with Rebekah, Zach and Avery. Nick was still working those crazy hours so he missed out again! It is a show you should see at least one time in your lifetime.

love love is....and a shout out to my sweet friend MD who is responsible  for me posting these  since back in 2009!

SPARKS

If you saw my blog post at My Tata's Cottage I was talking too much. So this post will be less wordy. But my feelings are still the same, I appreciate each person who takes the time to visit me here and there. 2023 and part of January 2024 were filled so so much car problems, bad weather and the good news, a new grandson born in December. I can not share his photo but he is a Sweet Boy. I will be catching up with each one of you commenting here. I often go to a blog and spend all my time visiting one person so it takes me awhile. But I love you all and appreciate you.

I will leave you here with a photo from about 1999 with Hannah, Colton, Rebekah and Nick in front of the fountain at Casa Bonita. We received a picture frame from Jeremy and Brittany & kids at Christmas and you add phots and it plays those photos. I love adding new ones and enjoying the other ones. It is a fun addition to our daily lives.

I will catch up Hannah's baby shower back in October 2023 and my milestone birthday tea party bash too December 2023. I am so behind on everything but I will have new posts to share . Thank you for stopping by. Enjoy the new week.

WOODENISMS

  •

“Woodenisms”

  • John Wooden’s most famous motivational quotes were often called Woodenisms for their simplicity and subtle guiding message. Here are 11 pearls of wisdom from the mind and heart of John Wooden:

    • “Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”
    • “If you don’t have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?”
    • “Make each day your masterpiece.”
    • “Never lie, never cheat, never steal.”
    • “Nothing will work unless you do.”
    • “Success comes from knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.”
    • “Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.”
    • “Talent is God given. Be humble. Fame is man-given. Be grateful. Conceit is self-given. Be careful.”
    • “The best competition I have is against myself to become better.”
    • “Whatever you do in life, surround yourself with smart people who’ll argue with you.”
    • “Young people need models, not critics.”
