THANKFUL THURSDAY

SHARON'S STRAWBERRY POUND CAKE TRIFLE

3 oz. vanilla instant pudding

1 can sweetened condensed milk

1/2 cup water

Mix these three ingredients together until thick

Cut up one large pound cake loaf into cubes.

I use Sara Lee  from the freezer section but you can bake your own from scratch or use whatever you prefer. Pound Cake is  heavier then angel food cake and absorbs the mixture better.

2 cups heavy cream, whipped firm. Fold into pudding mixture.

This dessert is beautiful in a trifle bowl as you can layer it. You can increase the pudding to 2 packages and add the condensed milk and water as listed.

Half 2 quarts of washed and stemmed strawberries.

Layer pound cake cubes with some of the pudding mixture. Add a layer of strawberries and continue this until you use all the layers. 

In the words of the late great chef Julia Child, please never use Cool Whip (petroleum based product) or any low fat items when preparing this delectable dessert trifle.

I am thankful for friends like my friend Sharon Hayes who shared this delectable dessert many, many years ago. It is still a favorite especially in the Spring and Summer . The beauty of this dessert is you use fresh berries or even peaches. Here is Colorado we can get some excellent sweet peaches in the late Summer months.

This is beautiful dessert to double for a crowd.

Years ago when I did Princess House, Jonel White (RIP) was our team leader. She loved when I shared this dessert for our Monday night meetings. I fondly remember Jonel as she passed away in 2010. She once said give me a straw and I will drink the remains of this delicious dessert! HaHaHa!

Some phamily friends lost their dad this week. They can not hold a memorial until all this virus commotion dies down. Very sad for them. Grateful for prayers for the Whitten Phamily.

My youngest daughter and I are going to journal in our bibles. She is quite artistic. I am not. But I have colored pencils and there will be lots of coloring and designing around verses. I encourage everyone to try this. There are many beautiful journaling bibles out there. 

Humor helps get through the difficult times. Oh Loretta, I can always count on you.
 

TUESDAY TIME

I wanted to remind myself to share it here. I also enjoy the beautiful Spring flowers which gives me hope that Spring will pop up very soon. It brings me happiness. Hoping you will stop by Happy Tuesday and share some goodness with everyone. Times are difficult for many these days so share something happy.m I also wanted to mention, during these times when everything is closed down  to think of others less fortunate. If you can, write some cards or notes and send them in a large envelope to a  local nursing home/assisted living in your own area. Many people have no one and with restrictions on lock downs many lonely souls could use a bit of happiness to brighten their day. Think about doing this or if you have kids at home, you might want to have them draw pictures or make their own cards,

Oh I love police humor and police dog humor too. Often we only hear the bad news about bad cops and we need to use better judgement. There are many great law enforcement out there. Let's be kinder and certainly more gentle. This fellow thought he needed more then a mini me of himself. Perhaps he was wishing for a nice juicy thick steak. Hmmmm...... I enjoy remembering all the fun we had when Angela hosted the Tuesday Show and Tails.

Oh Maxine, you are such a character! HaHaHa!

Wise words for difficult times.

I lost my big sister February 22, 2001. But she was married August 18, 1958. My sister Mary was the flower girl on your left. My brother Bill was best man next to the groom. I was a tiny toddler so not party of the wedding party. When I was small, I was quite shy (I know you can not believe it!) so I was often told that I was hiding in the back row when I asked why I was not in the photos. My sister Pat would have turned 83 on March 27th. She died so young and from such a terrible cancer. All the other attendants were cousins, Sharon the other flower girl. Cousin Ron (RIP) on far left and my cousins Charlotte (next to bride) and cousin Jeannie. I love my phamily.

Although Annie from McGuffy's Reader is on hiatus, I wanted to share this beautiful quote because she started this to share kindness and beauty. This quote gave me such a smile when I thought of my own sister.

BOOTS & ROSE

My boy Boots. He was born on our wedding anniversary May 3, 1998. He crossed the rainbow bridge on March 16, 2012 which was also our sweet Rose's birthday. She groomed him for his final ride that day. We lost her November 10,2019 when she was 14 and Boots would have celebrated his 14th year too, in May but he lost his battle with aging and diabetes. I am always and forever heartbroken that I lost him.

Boot never acted like a cat but rather a friend. When he was younger, the girls would dress him up and he would pose. What a friend he was.

This girl would have turned 15 March 16, 2020. But she took her walk across the rainbow bridge on November 10, 2019. Love you Rose, you chicken wrangler you!

Saturday Shares

I had to share this literary silliness. I remember reading Edgar Allan Poe in high school. Very much like Sylvia Plath,  Emily Dickinson and Poe, they were  dark and mesmerizing.

I always loved literature and reads all the classics, the great poets, the writers with such passion and creativity. I still love to read and found Carly Simon's 2015 book "Boys in Trees". She had a tortured relationship with her mother but truly adored her father. She was interesting because her father was the Simon of Simon and Schuster.

I studied Spanish in high school for two years. My hubby , French. The languages of love, sigh.......

I in no way dabble in the occult but this meme was too funny not to share. I knew a woman once, a mother of 4, who could not boil water but she could whip up homemade tortillas from scratch like she was born with that talent.

Walt Whitman was a creative genius. I still love reading his works.

Ah.....youth! Have a wonderful safe and healthy weekend.

Tuesday Show and Tail and Happy Tuesday with More

This is going to be a super long post. I hate missing all the fun so I try to catch up. It has been a wild week. All the media hysteria, all the craziness in stores. Perhaps I am a bit batty, but for my Happy Tuesday and Tuesday Show and Tail I am featuring bats.

Our daughter Rebekah has been fascinated by bats. They really are harmless critters as long as you leave them alone. I love to go to the zoo has they hang upside down in the darkness. They seem to be peaceful. Meanwhile...the world is batty! Stop by Comedy-Plus.com and remember all the fun times we posted with Angela at Tuesday Show and Tails. These bat babies made me smile.

Uncle Louie made a fortune in the stock market but he knew when to hold them and when to let 'em go! That was a long time ago and as my dad would say, sensibly, never put all your eggs in one basket. Oh Maxine, you will never make your fortune in casinos.

Finding good quotes and studying Scripture is a thankfulness I enjoy.

These Russian Blue Kittens are cute. I think saving a kitten or cat, especially older cats, from rescues are the best. If you love cats, you should visit some rescues today. Then say hi to Brian for Thankful Thursday too. 

Sandee is hosting Feline Friday and I found this google image of a blue eyes Siamese. I use to work with a gal who breed these beauties but boy oh boy were they annoying. They cry like real babies so they can be a handful.

1) I know I am sick when everything tastes awful, my head pounds and my whole being is achy.

2) For St. Patrick;s Day, I wear something green in honor of my hubby's Irish heritage. Plus we like shenanigans so.....

3) It's been a long time since I have worked in the world. I am grateful that ship has sailed.

4) In order to experience peace, you have to set your heart and mind on things above. 

Aw...Mondays and Love is...

Aw...Mondays. This was how my house was years ago when my Boots lived in peace and love and harmony with Shadow. Mister Kitty is a bully. He refuses to share space with the puppies.

Love is...always makes me smile. We have three daughters, two sons. But Lulu has one daughter Mollie. She also has a son, Finn. Those two cuties turn one on Wednesday March 11. I will blog about them later. 

Weekends come and go. I love them because it gives me time with my honey.  This weekend flew by although that time change always throws a wrench into your plans. I heard stories from two people already who blew it with the time change.

When I worked, I longed for the weekend. It gets easier when you don;t have to punch a clock. I LOVE it and prefer it.

We enjoyed a visit with Andrew and Tarrah and the boys. I did not have my phone at Noelle's house but I was holding Logan and he is growing. He is so happy, always happy. He weighs 15 lbs. and he is quite mobile. Momma said she was checking up on Benjamin while Logan was in his walker. They have a big kitchen , dining, great room, living room all opened. She said she was not gone but a minute when she returned Logan went from the kitchen into the living room. His little body is getting stronger every day. We keep praying he does not get sick again. He is so happy.  I'll remember my camera next time.

This rendition of Jesus and the little children is a favorite as my paternal grandmother had a photo like this in her house. We are to care for the little ones. It is so simple.

We have had some beautiful Spring like weather recently.  I am never fooled by it but will patiently wait for the snow storms to move away. We had rain last night. We woke up to fog and cooler temps. I hope we continue on this path.

I had to read this one twice to make sure I saw these words! I think drivers are 50 /50 that are good or not so great! Many insurance companies reward you when you are a good driver. I like that! My mom was a good driver, she taught me how to drive. My dad was more nervous although he was an excellent driver and once took us on a drive to Phantom Canyon. If you've ever driven over the Million Dollar Highway between Silverton and Ouray and survived, whoever was your driver , trust me, they were an excellent driver. My dad drove us on many trips and he was an excellent driver.  Are you a good driver?
