Not A Minimalist

So anyone who knows me well will not I am not a minimalist. I will not pick up every item I own and if I do not find joy in it I will toss is away or give it away! Marie Kondo apparently does not recycle! I am not concerned about my children and their feelings either. If I meet my maker before them my possessions will not matter. I have always thought perhaps they would think of me fondly rather than dump my things in a dumpster or thrift store. I have cards and letters and postcards from my folks that I treasure. My sister-in-law has a box of love letters that her dad wrote to her mom while he was overseas. As far as keeping mementoes and whatever makes you happy I say to each his own. We are not all the same, thank goodness.

I love my LuLaRoe.I have a lot of it but it is comfy and the fabric and prints are fun and pretty. But this meme was posted at social media by a LuLaRoe consultant and to be very honest, I love it and agree with it. I think you should just be your own person. Why do you need to read a book by someone who thinks they know the answer to everything? Do you need to copy someone else's style? Make your own style. Follow your own dreams. I remember when Oprah became a huge star. People worshipped her.  I reserve worship for this person:

Jesus loves the little children. I watched 2 of my great grand boys recently. The baby was wide awake and I was talking to him about Jesus. I wish I had a video of his precious little face. He was smiling so beautifully.

How about a little Maxine humor?

Oh Maxine, you crack me up daily!
Sad news on the passing of Peter Tork (far left). He was 77 and one of the most talented musicians . He had lots of talent and once directed an episode of the Monkees TV series, band mate Micky Dolenz took on the task of directed an episode too. Davy Jones (far right) passed away in 2012. I met these zany guys in 1967 as they were performing at the Colorado State Fair in my hometown of Pueblo, Colorado. My friend Bobbie, a California girl was with me when we met these guys. We even baked them a cake! Do you know that in 1967 these guys outsold both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones? I wish I had not lost contact with Bobbie, she was a sweet gal and had Pueblo roots so we were fast friends back then. We were so young, around 14 years old!
Rest well Mr. THorkelson.

Music:
Ben Gibbard from Death Cab for Cutie wrote this song and Micky Dolenz performed it with Peter Tork and Michael Nesmith. When my greatest grand boy Harrison was tiny I would play this song and it always soothed him to sleep. The tracks from the Good Times soundtrack were a long time coming, It commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Monkees to be exact! Many talented writers were involved in these project including Ben Gibbard and Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo. I love music so I love finding out why songs were written and knowing the writers and performers.
Say hi to Sandee and the folks at Aw...Mondays. This kitten fit purrrrrectly into the new week.
Love is...makes a happy day.
Enjoy your week.

Kids Say the Dardest Things and More Life

I was reminiscing... remembering some of the best lines handed over to me from kids. Take, for instance, my nephew Troy. A sweetheart of a young man and always has been a sensitive guy with a huge heart. When he about 5 or 6 he got into a scrape with another relatives son. His parents were not sure how to handle it. He came up to me and he said " Auntie, he laid a lie on me. He laid a lie on me and my mom and dad didn't know if they should believe me."  He was quite upset and extremely dramatic. I told him I believed him and his mom and dad were torn because you hate to have a phamily rife over a squabble with the kids. He was grateful to know that I really cared and he knew his mom and loved him dearly too. Troy and Colton a long time ago....
Karla and her kids (Troy in red). This was Colton's high school graduation.

Nick and Colton at Thanksgiving 2017.
Nick and Colton at Noelle's wedding August 27, 2000. When Colton was a small boy, as seen here, we were attending CHRISTmas Eve services. The church was silent as the children proceeded to their sits while carrying lights to light the way for Jesus's coming. Colton was next to me and tugged at my hand. Loudly he proclaimed, "Grandmother, when is Jesus and His Father going to get here?" The church congregation burst into joyful chuckles. Today Colton is daddy to very beautiful boys. My goodness time slips by so quickly.
PaPa Avery with his buddy. Colton gave this little fellow his grandfather's name as a middle name. He is so proud.
Thor dreaming of a sunny beach as it is nine degrees outside with light snow fall. He and his brother Loki celebrated their first birthday on February 12th.
I thought Sandee and the folks at Aw.....Mondays would enjoy these puppy shares.
Love is....your rock. I believe everyone has a rock. My sweet hubby is mine.
A bit of Monday morning humor in case you are stuck in traffic.
Today is this birthday boys numero uno. Daddy has the day off so he was enjoying some cartoons. His favorite: Todd, Toot and Tizzy from the Baby Channel. We all think they are creepy but the little ones think they are first rate. Happy Birthday Handsome! Number One looks good on you.
Tomorrow I will share lots of birthday fun with the birthday boy, Numero Uno.

Memory Makers and A Little Bit of Weekend Humor

This has been a rough week. Found out from my sister that a classmate from kindergarten through high school passed away. My love and prayers to Richard's wife Debra (we were high school classmates) and their son and his phamily. Life is short, laugh more and keep good memories close to your heart. This google image really touched my heart tonight as I sat down to write this.
You know that saying, when life gives you lemons...make lemonade. No matter what life throws at you give it to God and let Him take your anxiety away. I find so many young people grasping at straws. Not knowing if anything exists that is worth the wait. Trust me, it is worth the wait.
You may laugh at us or think we are old fashioned or boring but if you listen to what we have to say, someday you may just be as smart as we are.
Humor is always an excellent choice. Even in sadness you will find there is going to be something that will make you smile again. This was just too cute not to share.
I have had a great deal of trouble getting enough rest at night. I am not a huge fan of pharmaceutical companies and their drugs that give you relief from one thing and a hundred other things to make you more sick and worrisome. I am learning, even at my age, that God is truly in control and I need to stop fighting Him for control of things that I clearly have no expertise in!
My daughter-in-law has a birthday today. She shared this photo of of a couple of her very favorite people. Two huge reasons to make someone smile. Those faces are precious and priceless. Big sis is growing up and blossoming into a lovely young lady.  Looking more like her mom every day. Little brother is the master of facial expressions. I knew his father when he was a small boy. Hmmm....think it's genetics?
I wonder if Brittany would like this cake? I already put this on my pinterest page of Phamily Celebration Cakes. Reminder: the Kentucky Derby is going to be here before I know it. Time to search for that perfect hat.
Having a birthday right next to Valentine's Day may bring a gal more floral bouquets. Brittany is a lucky lady.
A small sweet poem to share for the birthday girl in our phamily.
Words to think about.
Ha! Maxine haven't you heard, daylight savings time is coming soon to a place near you?
More words to think about. I believe we are headed into some very troubling times. My choice is to stay as close to God as I can.
President's Day is Monday February 18, 2019.  A fun history fact before it disappears. George Washington our first US President was born February 22, 1732. Abraham Lincoln, was born February 12, 1809. WIlliam Henry Harrison was born February 9, 1773 and Ronald Reagan was born February 6, 1911. Many people dislike our current president. A fun fact about him, he does not claim to own the rights to President's Day and he was born on what is celebrated in the USA as Flag Day June 14th in the year 1946.
Visit Sandee for fun with Feline Friday. I thought I'd stick with the patriotic theme. I shared the some of the meaning of patriotism.  I'm like my folks were, a real Yankee doodle Dandy.
