Vintage Sweet Lambs

I have had an upside down week. Actually my spring and summer was full of loss and it seems to be starting all over again this fall! But instead of dwelling on sadness I want to smile so I pulled out my two precious lambs and my baby block that I found for pennies each at the thrift stores. I remember these lil lambs when I had my first child. They were popular to give a floral arrangement to a new mom and baby! I had grand plans to use them for some great craft project but they sit in my bedroom filled with a  variety of things, paperclips, eye liners, receipts, notes and other miscellaneous items.

I am not quite as unique and talented as most of my blogging friends here so bare with me. I am always smiling when I see Sun Bonnet Sue these days. I always thought she was a sweetheart and reminded me of Holly Hobbie  too. But now she will take on a whole new meaning. Thanks CC for your friendship and for your dedication to all your blogging friends.

MY VINTAGE MOM AND HER PHAMILY

Welcome to Vintage Thursday Thingy. I have been wrapped up with my phamily lately and I love 'em, each and every one of them. So today I want to share my favorite photo of my precious momma (middle girl) with four of her siblings. My grandmother was widowed and left to raise six children alone after the untimely death of her husband and young son (Tony) on your right. He was 17 and my uncle Louie (left) was 18 when Tony and their dad were killed in a mining accident in February of 1927 in Cripple Creek/Victor, Colorado.
I have this photo hanging in my bedroom next to my bed and I often look at it and wonder what they were thinking when that photo was taken. My mother is the pretty middle girl and her older sister Mary in on your left and her younger sister Ann on your right.
I know my mother loved to dance with her daddy as did her other sisters. They hardly waited for Saturday evening to roll around so they could dance with their daddy to the radio music that played in their humble home.
My mother had two more sister Elsie and Jo that were quite small when their father and brother were killed. My mother also had two other sisters Frances and Rose that passed away when they were infants. I often think of the terrible hardships my grandmother endured and how they survived. They survived ultimately on hard work and love of each other and their precious phamily.
My uncle Louie was a very successful man but he survived something I can not even imagine. He had just come out of the mine to take a break when the cave in occurred. He said he remembers the cries for help and he was left so helpless. He carried a small box with him and inside that box was a simple small gold hoop earring. He said his father had a pierced ear and he kept that with him until the day he passed away as an old man. My uncle was kind and compassionate and he cared for many during his lifetime. Perhaps it was his way of trying to reconcile some of the sadness he felt during that tragic time in their lives.
My mother was just a young teen when here father and brother died. I often have wished I would have asked her more questions about that terrible time in her life. I find myself crying and feeling overwhelming sadness for my grandfather and uncle that I never knew.

VINTAGE TREASURES

My cute little squirrel dish sat at my sister's Goodwill store for three weeks. I looked it over and wanted it and never bought it. It is made in Taiwan and he is cute as can be sitting on top of a nut! It is such a sweet piece, I am glad no one wanted him because now he belongs to me!

The little Josef girl with the baby shoe is sweet too. She is only marked Josef so I don't know why no one else wanted to share with this cute little miss. I am so glad I found them and glad to show them to you today.

VINTAGE LINENS FOR PENNIES

I spent several hours in the A.R.C/ thrift store in my hometown with my sister. I bought all these beautiful hand made lines for literally pennies. I am shocked that people toss these exquisite lineNs out.  They are  so gorgeous. I tried to get close in so you could see the detail.

I just had to share them with you. I am going to put them around my house so my phamily can enjoy these beauties. I wish I had the talent to make these but I have always had bad eyesight and the strain doing such close work is so difficult for me.
I am going back to check out their afghan collection. I am amazed how little treasures from someone's grandmother could be. I like these better than anything I could buy in the store. I hope you liked it today.

GOLDEN BOOKS

Hi! I am late posting but wanted to share some of my Golden Books with you. I have so many things to treasure and save because these books remind me of my childhood. They also remind me of the childhood of all five of my kids. I use them when I put my dolls on display. An example is my lovely Alice in Wonderland doll posing with my copy of what else, Alice In Wonderland! I am a bit irked because Disney and other mega film makers have taken childhood sweetness and turned it into entertainment for adults!
But I do love these precious books and wanted to share a few here today.

These are just a few google image examples of my book collection. My children love these books even today. They are priceless pieces of each one of our childhoods.

My Antique Doll Postcards

Hi and welcome to the Vintage Thingy Thursday. I am having some difficulty loading my antique postcard reproductions but I managed to capture two of the twelve. The first one is (L) a French Limoges doll created circa 1915 by A. Lanternier and Cie. (R) a German G and S Special doll produced circa 1880.

The second postcard is (L) a German Daisy doll created circa 1892 by Kestner and Co. (R) a SPBH doll produced in 1906 by Schoenau and Hoffmeister.

Here is a cute Vintage pink and blue fabric elephant pajama bag! Does anyone remember these? My oldest daughter in her thirties had this one!

Finally a sweet baby dress I found in my mother's cedar chest. Memories....
