Feline Friday and Pink Saturday

 Feline Friday

Some peopel do not like black cats, they tend to be associated with Friday the 13th. Well my boy Boots was the most fabulous feline I ever knew. He was pure class. He had a bit of an ornery streak. If he did not want his photo taken he would turn his head so I could not see his eyes. He had a milk mustache and white paws and a white chest. He was an exquisite gift and I will love him forever.

He never left my side. He always stayed very close by. So while Friday the 13th comes to a close, I cle]ebrate my Handsome boy who lives in my heart forever.

Between Garfield hitting the wall  Phamily Blog and Snoopy stressing I would say this was a good conclusion to my day today.

A vintage pink phone booth in London with a pink phone. when I was young I always wanted that pink Princess phone or the Victorian phone. Sigh.....now people spend way too much time on cellphones. I miss those good old days. Please visit Beverly for a Random Pink Saturday where anything goes. This image came from google.

Birthday Celebrations, Controversy in Baseball and More

I am grateful for Friday. I am thankful the week is finally closing. My sweetheart Avery had a birthday today. He was unable to take off today from work but he does get a three day weekend, having Monday off instead.

This day is a very important one to me. My father was born on this date. I would not wish him back to this messy world but when he was in it, he loved celebrating all the holidays and birthdays with loved one. I knew my husband was a good man when I met him and found out his birthday was the same day as my dad. I remember my dad was smiling when I told him Avery shared his birthday. He said, "He must be a good man." I wish my father  a happy 36th birthday in heaven. I feel he is smiling down on all of us. My father was a "phamily man". Secondary only to his faith, he cherished his phamily.

I have found, as the years roll by, I never feel better than I did the day I lost my father.  Time marches on and my love for my dad will not cease until this life ends and a new heavenly one begins. Then I can see all those loved ones who went before me. I am anxious for that day.

Anyone who knows me any length of time will know my dad played semi pro ball. He played in the 1930's with the likes of guys who he had the opportunity to play against like Babe Ruth and Satchel Paige. The stories I heard from my dad about these baseball greats, when men were men and basball was played for the love of the game, not any politics. The climate today ripped out the heart of the great American pastime and turned it into a political free-for-all. Sad but  I am grateful my dad is not here to witness the shameful events taking place. Today my cousin reminded me, if Bob Feller were alive he would throw a fast ball right into the middle of the nonsense surrounding the Cleveland Indians. Call 'em what you like, be PC but they will forever be the Cleveland Indians to me. I can see my sweet father shaking his head in disgust at all this political nonsense.  If anyone had the notion to sit down and talk with someone from my father's era, they would have learned lots of wonderful baseball facts and lots of other important hisdtorical facts. They would never have spoken one political word about the once great American past time.

My father in his favorite shirt,  navy blue with white dots. He loved that shirt. You have to realize, all week long I have remembered conversations with my dad about baseball. He would remind me, that Bob Feller pitched for the Cleveland Indians until his career was interrupted by WWII and his service in the U.S. Navy. He would say things like, Ted WIlliams and Stan "the Man" Musial would both agree that Feller was the greatest pitcher of their era, Williams adding he was also the fastest. He would remind me of the great poverty Joltin Joe DiMaggio grew up with and yet went on to become one of the greatest basbeball players in the history of the game. Joe DiMaggio loved opening day. He said he felt he owed giving his best to kids watching him from the stands. He said they deserved to see him at his very best.  My dad would talk about Branch Rickey, the former baseball player and basbeall executive who crossed the color barrier to hire Jackie Robinson. That is why they are known as the "Greatest Generation". Because they cared, they loved their teammates, the played the game of basball simply because they were passionate about it. I should sit down and write out asll the little things I remember in conversations with my day. Cal Ripkin Jr. breaking Lou Gehrig's record for most consecutive games played (2632) after 56 years and a title Gehrig held (2130) that people never dreamed would be broken. I believe in this age of baseball Cal Ripken Jr. will be holding that record long after this world passes away. Another travesty of baseball, my dad would remind me that Pete Rose did belong in the hall of Fame and anyone who thinks differently is judging him because they are putting themselves above God Himself. "Charlie Hustle"  will always be one of the greats and he will always be in my Hall of Fame. I could sit here all night telling these little tidbits. Dizzy Dean was another favorite. But you will have to do your own research. If I go on telling tales about these Greatest Generation men in sport, I will surpass War & Peace and need a U-haul to carry my words to the printer. If you want to learn how baseball was before the PC Patrol moved in, check out guys who played the game before political correctness became a way of life in the world. I am glad I have many of these memories tucked inside my heart. Who knows when all history will be erased completely to ease the minds of people who never understood what history really is and why when bad things happen in it, the simple fact is, you never repeat it! It is so complex they would have to rise Stephen Hawking from his grave but he might hurt their feelings too.

My dapper husband at his former elementary school, Parkview. He was a handsome lad. He grew up to be such an exceptional man. He reminds me very much of my own father. Except I believe my father, having been raised in the Catholic church.  read his bible privately and my husband shares the gospel with anyone who cares to sit down and listen to the words from it.

Avery and his mom, Rita in Arkansas, November 1960. His father Carl was born and raised there.  My husband is the spitting image of his late father and our youngest son Nick is the spitting image of Avery. Noelle has a friend, Tracy, that she grew up with. To this day, Tracy, who lives in Arkansas, by the way, will say how is little Avery or Hey isn't that little Avery? I have wanted to travel to Arkansas because so many of my father-in-law's loved ones are buried there. He had quite a rich history. spanning years from Ulster Province in Ireland to Arkansas and Tennessee as well as Pennsylvania and North Carolina. We have the genealogy paperwork and those are the four states I can recall where many Robinson phamily members settled. Their trials and suffering have afforded so many a better life. I really wish more people would understand that. I have always done my own research and will continue to do so. If you think times are tough today, you should have to pull out several volumes of the Encyclopedia Brittanica and search for information that was otherwise, not readily available 50 years ago. Personally, it broke my heart to give up my encyclopedia set.
I am grateful for all the memories, grateful for the parents I had, grateful for the man I married and had a marvelous dinner with tonight. I will share those details tomorrow. Sweet dreams. Happy Birthday Wishes to everyone who celebrated another 365 trip around the sun.

THANKFUL THURSDAY

Thankful Thursday I am truly thankful today for so much. I am going to list it here:

1. Phamily - without them, where would I be? Having Hannah and Jake here for a while is a blessing of which I am thankful. As I was typing away, Harrison James came creeping into my bedroom and scared the dickens out of me! He was laughing so hard. Goodness, I love his laughter.

2. Hard Work - getting ready for Hannah's birthday bash this weekend. Rebekah and Hannah and Jake washed down the patio and cleaned off the tables and chairs. Then they started to trim the giant pine tree. Which led to more cleaning. Hannah and Jake were up on the roof cleaning the gutters. Jake cleared the gutters and now everything is so good. Thankful for them and all the hard work.

3. Free Firewood- it has been in the 90's and we keep hearing maybe breaking 100 ( no no no please Lord no). So firewood would be the last thing on your mind right? But Hannah and Jake will cut up the big branches that fell and take them home for their winter warmth. So very thankful.

4. Baseball - It is hard to have a day go by that I don't mention baseball. I am thankful for it. Thankful for my dad that played semi pro ball long before I was thoughts about. Thankful for my mom who also played the game and two brothers as well. I played it and enjoyed it but I don't think I did enjoy it the way my mom did. I suppose she played in a different time and everyone loved the game. I was timid ( I know it is hard to beleive) so I was not as forceful as some of the bigger girls who were really good. But I have always loved the game. Now we get to watch Brody play his T Ball. Thankful

5. Games- Thankful for all the fun kid games we have. Harrison is the master of Banana Blast and Candyland. He is like Grandfather Avery. Ha Ha Ha - winner winner, I say they are both two big chicken dinners!! Brody is the puzzle master. He puts those together so quickly with Grandpa Avery and Rebekah too. Blake is our little smartie. He does everything Brody does. So he can count to 10 and he knows all his letters and colors. It is amazing to watch these little ones grow up.

Thankful for all good things in my life and for all of you too.

I always like to leave some wise words for you to read and hopefully share.

Some humor to make sure you smile more.

Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday I do not have a very exciting cat. Perhaps I am lucky. But he does settle in at night and sleeps by my feet. I never have cold feet. So I am thankful for him. Annoying as he can be, bugging me for fresh water from the sink. Meowing too loudly 2 hours before dinnertime and sleeping. He looks so sweet when he is sleeping. Don't let him fool you. Hope you stop by Brian's for a visit.

I suppose if sleeping cats were ususual he would be a wealthy feline. He loves sleeping and he has no trouble getting into a comfy place to rest his weariness. From what, I am not sure. But I love the silly fellow and willkeep him. It is him and me against the rest of the world. I am very thankful I took him into my home. I shudder to think where he would be. Probably sickly or dead. He lives a very good life here. He is warm or cool when needed, sleep s in comfy places, eats top of the line food and drinks only fresh water. I think he should be thankful. Perhaps he is, he does keep my feet warm at night.

This is a Dirty Hippie. I really miss going to the Buff in Boulder where you can drink this one of a kind coffee drink from a mason jar. You can have a Mimosa for 99 cents (limit three). Hey, it's a college town! The food is great and the place is very popular. At least it use to be.

This chandelier hangs in one of the diningrooms in the Buff. It is made from spoons. I love it and think it is so unique. Missing places like this lately. Today I received a new menu from First Watch. Although it is a chain restaurant for breakfast and lunch, it has nice menu and most of the food is quite healthy. It is a place where you can even sit at a community table. Those were fun times.

Harrison James looked like a mini Steve Largent in his finest NFL days. Largent could catch those passes with two fingers up in the air. He never had to dance in the end zone either. It was his job to ctch those passes. Today everyone needs a pat on the back or their unhappy. Sigh....

Snoopy is my all time favorite. He has never gone into PC mode. He never is spiteful or inappropriate. He was created by an amazing man with an amazing talent and I don't think we see much of that these days. Snoopy can still make me smile, no matter what is happening in the world.

Sad but true. My dad warned me about this when I was a young woman. Satan is crafty, he is trying to destory as many souls as he possibly can. His time is running out because :

Have a wonderful night. Most you are probably in bed dreaming sweet dreams or sleeping soundly. I am a late night owl lately. So I almost feel like I am doing things backward. It doesn't bother me, it is just strange. I use to be a 9:30 P.M. in bed, getting my zzzz's kinda gal.

I know you keep Tarrah, Ella and Nick in your prayers. Nick should be released to work tomorrow once he sees his doctor. Tarrah is doing out patient care so she may be at home with the boys; Ella is working hard on growing, gaining weight and getting home to her brothers. Thanks for all you do for us. You mean a lot.

Feline Friday

Someone didn't want his picture taken. He hates to be bothered. But so do I, hahaha. He is sure a pretty boy though.

He is a bit more social in the second photo. So happy Feline Friday

"If a cat could talk, they wouldn't." Nan Porter

Snoopy is like me, just a Classic! He is certainly not old at all!
Loretta started this last night! Now I see it all over. This is certainly me, I use my amazon prime constantly. Always something we need and yes, amazon does support small businesses. I buy from them all the time.  In fact, when two packages arrived today, I said, hmmmm..... let's roll the dice and guess what this is! HaHaHa! I have come to know one of the drivers, a nice young fellow who always waves and tells me to have a great day! I know he likes me a lot, I help keep his job!
