THANKFUL THURSDAY

I am sharing Thankful Thursday I am thankful for cows who produce delicious milk, butter, cream and ice cream.
Cow or formally known as bovine humor.
Ok the cow humor was funny, admit it.
This is my great grandmother who was the mother of my grandfather Joseph Steblay. Her name was Mary or Marjia. She lived a long life but never came to the USA, she chose to stay in Yugoslavia n/k/a/ sLOVEnia . IT is more difficult to gather information when searching eastern European records.

Words to ponder while I research my phamily history.
Snoopy sends you a selfie. He is sweet and funny and timeless.

TUESDAY

I am celebrating Happy Tuesday  I am also celebrating one of my most favorite people on earth! Her name is Amanda Campbell-Wheeler. She is mom to five beautiful kiddos that she home schools. She shared this with me and I am sharing it too. I was not fortunate to home school our children but Amanda is blessed. She has one daughter and four sons. They are bright, funny, articulate and they love Jesus! Her twins are David and James.  David wants to be a farmer. He is constantly planting seeds. It is so fun to watch her children grow and remember those days, long ago with my own brood.
A little humor for my edition of Tuesday Show and Tail A classic Eagles song set to a goat in an Old Ford truck. Our son Jeremy is obsessed with goats.  As an infant. my Uncle Louie use to share the fact that his younger brother Tony was not thriving and my grandmother started to give him goat's milk. I love the memory my uncle shared.
Uncle Louie with his father.
Oh Maxine! Today I can relate to you!
Diet humor!

Laundry humor.
Rest well my friends and see you tomorrow, God willing..

Aw....Mondays and Other Life Shares

Rose has a serious "catitude". She has those piercing green eyes and she is very independent. She suffers from what appears to be similar to sinus problems in humans. She hates for me to wipe her nose. But she gets disgusting "booger" nose and she also has a mean left hook! I Have to wipe her nose and run fast! Hard to do with my recent bum knee. She will allow Nick and Rebekah to wipe her nose without incident. Yet she knows when she needs a fresh cold drink of water I am her number one human. I thought I would share this photo of her for Aw....Mondays. Come join the fun.

Everyday has something to be grateful for. Albert Schweitzer was a smart man.
Lucia Vest and George O Blackwell, my hubby's maternal grandparents. They were so young and look at how spiffy they were dressed. I am trying to find information about Grandma Blackwell's infant sister who was born and passed away in the same year. Oh, it is such a sadness to me. How much suffering people did. Trying to make better lives for their further children.
This use to be a bar or tavern as they were called, when I was a kid. The Grove is off of Santa Fe in our hometown and this neighborhood lies close to the banks of the Arkansas River. At one time a girl I attended parochial school with had a grandmother who owned this tavern. The girl was Marty Servo, named after her father who was a prize boxer at one point in his life. I Need to make another road trip home so I could shot some photos of my childhood.
My Sweet's adored his mom. She was the cutest little girl, sharing her chair and a photo with her baby brother Bud.To see these photos makes us both happy. Sharing some of our history is quite exciting and learning so much.
Love is...once applied lasts a lifetime. Always enjoy sharing these sweet love notes.

GRATEFUL

I am late posting this cute Snoopy. The months fly by.
During this new month of June, I am grateful to live with five months behind us and seven still ahead. Grateful for small things, sunshine, a roof over our heads. The hubby does Saturday mail, about every six weeks, on Saturday. I tag along and watching the homeless people downtown makes me so very sad. This is a problem we should never have in the USA. I would be grateful to see solutions. Kansas City built a town just for homeless Veterans . Our cities need to do more for their citizens before taking on the rest of the world.
May 29th was the anniversary of Mollye Self who went to be with the Lord. It took me a few days to sort out how I would get through writing this brief tribute. She was an incredible human being. She was someone who cared, truly cared. I don't think I have ever known anyone as kind as Mollye. I would tell her something and two years later she would remember that conversation and had such a knack for making you feel better, no matter what happened. When she lost her son Jake, unexpectedly, she never lost her zeal for living. She continued to be a kind heart even though her own heart was broken into a million pieces. Why she had to leave this earth so suddenly makes me sad to this very day. She was just such a creative lady, a kind heart, funny, serious and a survivor. Nothing was too difficult for her, except her short battle with the illness that stole away my sister who was exactly that to me! We never had that face to face opportunity but she was a one of a kind gal. I miss you girl, You always had all the right things to say to me. There will never be anyone like you. I will see you on the other side someday. Enjoy your son while you are waiting for everyone else. Love you Miz Mollye.
Mollye was born on January 9, 1944. She passed away on May 29, 2014. Everyday is a difficult day, when I need to talk with you and you are no longer here.
Steve Prefontaine was one of the greatest middle and distance runners in our time. He was born January 25, 1951 and passed away tragically May 30, 1975. Every year I like to remember him and since he was a true rock star like Mollye, I decided, even if it is a few days late, I would share them together here. I know Mollye would have liked that because she listened to me talk about running all the time. Rest In Peace

FRIDAY FUN AND MORE

Ha Ha Ha ! I noticed Brody tried to get into a box last time we watched him. Instead of playing with very pricey little cars and trucks! Oye! Cats are the same as toddlers. Give me the box, forget those silly toys. Our felines are hiding from the heat today so no photos for me. They are pretending they are in the Feline Witness Protection Program! Tell Brian hi and join the feline funnies today.
Feline's For Fun!
I do not have terrific handwriting but my two left handed brothers and one right handed sister have perfect penmanship!  I do not like like seeing art that is dying. I worked with a lady, Barb D. who had huge platinum blonde hair and perfectly tailored Chanel suits. Full face make up and very simple jewelry. She would do calligraphy and it was perfection. Too many art forms slipping away.
I need a daily reminder to keep my faith strong in a world kind to everyone but faithful followers of God. Makes me sad but I know He is there and the good news is, He loves every one of us.
Someone needs to hear these affirmations and Scripture verses today. Never think you are alone. The One who created you loves you.
Our sweet Brody with his buddies, Avery and Colton, they are so cute when they are in alphabetical order or not ! Where did one whole year go away to? The momma and daddy share this cute post.
Waiting on my pink Chucks by Converse. Picturing them here for Pink Saturday Visit Beverly and say Hello! Always pretty in pink.
A grateful share. Have a beautiful weekend. Love and Hugs xo

THANKFUL THURSDAY: NOSTALGIA

June will be here soon. The months leave me so quickly. I am trying to play catch but the bottom line with blogging. I LOVE IT!
Do you remember the old song "Time in a Bottle?" by the late Jim Croce?  I was at a friends post at social media and remembering my youth and things kids today would not understand. So I decided to just write a post.

Can you imagine kids today having to actually dial a phone? These phones were sturdy and lasted a lifetime. In fact when my sister Mary inherited Grandma S's home she had to take the land line out. I am sure that phone is in the Smithsonian. They would even type your phone number on the little card by the dial!
I doubt people today have the patience for party lines. We shared our phone line with a phamily with three teenage daughters! Once after working a double shift my dad needed a ride home. He was a steel worker. Although he was humble and kind let's just say he was not at all amused that he could not get through the phone line to reach my mom to come pick him up! I wish I were more like him, Even dog tired from working a double shift he never ever uttered an inappropriate word.
For a dollar you could walk out of Bollinger's Confectionery with at least this  much penny candy. My goodness how we loved to browse through all the  candy choices back in my day. Even the gentleman and his sisters who worked in the store were "vintage".
Vintage candy is pricey today but there was a time.....
Gum was popular when I was a kid. This is from the 1950's. I'm not sure I was chewing gum yet. But this is a well known brand from back in the day. Do you remember sin sin? I think you can still find it. I remember all the adults were smokers when I was a kid and they used sin sin,  a licorice based little square smaller than a fingernail to have fresh breathe.
1950's vinyl records and dancing.
1960 dances: The express "good old days" is so true. Music, dancing, the way we lived, it was all such fun.Listening to the radio, imagining different images inside your mind while listening to music and stories or baseball games. Today people are so  busy burying their heads in cell phones and other electronics. It's a sad world. Talking with each other has become a thing of the past. THankful for my phamily and heritage which I cherish.

A friend of mine shared this fun find with me. Many of us who grew up in a sLOVEnian neighborhood use the slang term "Bojon". Apparently there are sLOVEnian people who consider this equal to being racist. I think today, people take things too far, way too far. The gentleman who researched this article was a high school teacher of mine. He also attended school with my older brother Ed. I Love the info he presented here. I love all the stories my paternal grandfather told me as a child. Although he had no desire to return to his roots, he was grateful to be an American citizen. He worked hard to make that happen. My grandfather would never have told me any lies and therefore I will treasure all my conversations I had with him and all the time I spent with him. I lost him in 1968 and I was in the 8th grade. I wish I Had more photos of him.
This is their wedding anniversary , I believe this was 60 years. My grandmother was a teen when she married. Different times and people with a faith in God, love of their phamily and they worked hard to come to the USA. They were married May 22, 1905. Grandma was 16 and Grandpa was 22. I am sure my aunt Mary (Mima) their daughter baked that cake or one of her relatives by marriage did. I wish my grandfather were here to see this article my former teacher researched. He would smile and he would have loved it.
Joining Brian on Thankful Thursday. If your a prayer warrior pray for our Hannah as she heads to Buffalo, NY for a long weekend. Her dear friend Jana is getting married in September. The bridal shower is this weekend and she was excited to go. Hoping and praying her flight is easy and arrives safely.
Hoping you will stop by and visit Brian and those who participate.
Enjoy your remaining weekdays and have a beautiful weekend.
