Good Fences and Alphabe Thursday "W"

This is a lovely home near mine and their tall white picket fence loves lovely against their perfectly manicured yard.

Please, no parking in front of this fence and gate!
This neighborhood owner wants total privacy with a high wall added to his fence! The problem with this, you are such an easy target to be burglarized! Years ago we had an elderly couple for a back fence neighbor. He put up a 7 foot retaining wall made out of concrete blocks. He disliked our puppies who probably yapped at the squirrels when they were outside. He also disliked neighbor Rich who drank a lot and loved to visit with neighbors, but Rich is the one who called 9-1-1 when another neighbors home was firebombed! One day Karl and his wife were gone, broad daylight, and the police came to the door questioning neighbors if we saw anything. I took the officer in my backyard. He chuckled, that wall was soundproof! The burglars cleaned out their home. I guess the neighbors on the front did not like Karl and his wife either! Please visit TexWisGirl and as many participates as possible please! Thanks to all who faithfully comment. Your thoughts are very much appreciated!

I Keep Six Honest... - Poem by Rudyard Kipling

I keep six honest serving-men
(They taught me all I knew);
Their names are What and Why and When
And How and Where and Who.
I send them over land and sea,
I send them east and west;
But after they have worked for me,
I give them all a rest.

I let them rest from nine till five,
For I am busy then,
As well as breakfast, lunch, and tea,
For they are hungry men.
But different folk have different views;
I know a person small-
She keeps ten million serving-men,
Who get no rest at all!

She sends'em abroad on her own affairs,
From the second she opens her eyes-
One million Hows, two million Wheres,
And seven million Whys!

This poem is a phamily favorite! Great for graduations! So in honor of the letter "W" and Ms. Jenny and all the participates of Alphabe Thursday this is my What and Why and When and How and Where and Who post~

Enjoy and please visit as many participates as you can. Thank you

i guess having a solid wall perimeter has its drawbacks. :)

It is a shame people do not feel safe in their own homes.. I like the first fence shot.. Happy Thursday!

That fence is incredibly tall. We recently replaced our old fence with a new six foot tall fence. Where we live every yard is fenced, but where I grew up in Wisconsin no yard is fenced. We noticed few yard fences in Connecticut where we have relatives. Is this a regional thing?

I like the first pretty white fence a lot.
we don't have lots of yard fencing around here. Mainly it's fencing for farms and such, and pool deck fencing.

Great Kipling poem! I love picket fences too -- they are so quaint anymore! The house where I grew up had one on the sides of the front yard -- the only problem was that I had to trim the grass around all the pickets! No weed eaters back then! One of our neighbors (now) had a picket fence, but she moved and the next people tore the fence down -- I miss that fence! :(

Hi Anne, yes, that is a pretty white fence. Some of our neighbors have them and I think they are plastic, for decoration only. Thunk it next time you walk by.
We don't have fences here, not even to keep our dog off the golf course. I like to see what is going around.

Shame folks will just park anywhere they feel like - and turn on the blinking hazard lights to make it "ok" - Never quite understood how that made the illegal parking ... legal.

Oh my I don't think I'd like having that tall a fence in front of my house. People must really have something to hide if they want that much privacy.

Great fence pictures, Anne! That is pretty comical about the guy putting up the cinder-block fence and then getting robbed blind. Takes all kinds in the world! xo Diana

I couldn't help chuckling at 'poor' Karl's misfortune. Pizazzzz... karma!

I've never seen that Kipling poem but loved it all the same. All of a sudden I was right back in h.s. journalism class, all set on becoming a famous correspondent. (smile)

I enjoyed your fence story. I have a six foot privacy fence on one side of my house, and we've planted flowering shrubs and other flowers along the whole length of it. Some day, I'd love to put up a white picket fence along the front side of the property. Hmmm, we'll see.

I loved the poem. Don't think I ever read that one before. One of my daughters has a little dog who has seizures too. Sassy's are mostly caused by eating people food. So they are very careful about Sassy is fed. Still, it doesn't stop every seizure.

This bug I've caught is still hanging on to me. I've coughed so much that now it hurts. I will be so glad when this is all out of my system.

My eldest daughter Audrey bought herself a beautiful pair of cowgirl boots last summer. I have to agree that the tooling design on them is really quite beautiful. I hope you get your boots soon.

You have a wonderful weekend. Hugs, Edna B.

I have a neighbor with a wall like that. He doesn't really like anyone, but I think it's sad he makes himself so isolated!
