FORGET-ME-NOT

Welcome to my Mothers Day Pink Saturday. Please visit Beverly and thank her for graciously hosting this each week. She is a real doll for keeping this up and running! Happy Mother's Day to all of you!

My Mother's Day will be good because our oldest son Jeremy will graduate from college! We will all be front and center at nine o'clock in the morning Sunday the 13th to watch him receive a double degree in business journalism and history. Two days later Nick will graduate from high school and embark on his new journey, college in Kansas. I am a proud mom and happy to see my sons move into the next phase of their lives.

I know you will remember Shannon's story. The little California four year old who passed away from Brain cancer in March this year. We all got together and some very talented folks made quilted squares to create a quilt for Shannon. She lost the battle before the quilt was finished but her family accepted the quilt as a remembrance to her! Many folks are receiving thank you letters from the family and in their grief and sadness they stopped to thank each person involved. They included a packet of forget-me-not seeds and asked that we plant them and remember Shannon. I know I will never forget Shannon. I am going to plant those seeds and I am sharing an image of forget-me-nots here today.

Did you know that forget-me-nots are primarily bright blue in color but occasionally they bloom in pink and white? Since medievial times this pretty flower has been a symbol of enduring love despite absence or separation. There is even a song, written by Patrice Rushen entitled "Forget Me Not"

I wanted to share Shannon with you today. While we celebrate Mother's Day this weekend let us remember Shannon's mom Saeko who will be missing her little girl. Despite their grief, this wonderful family chose to share their daughter with us and I  will  always be grateful.

I remember this story very well. I do not sew, therefore, did not participate in the quilt. Many blessings to this family and yours.

What a beautiful post!! I love that you are remembering her here! My mother was just diagnosed with liver and pancreatic cancer. This past month has been a range of emotions that I never ever knew was possible. You really learn (quickly)to focus on what's important...
I actually bought a package of Forget-Me-Nots... I think I will plant them tomorrow.
Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Pink Saturday!
