Gleaning the Fields

In honor of Mother's Day and Spiritual Sundays I decided to talk about Ruth from the old testament. Please stop by bloggerspirit.blogspot.com/  Spiritual Sundays and thank Charlotte and Ginger for hosting this lovely post.

To all mom's out there may you be blessed with a wonderful day full of love and family and good friends! Happy Mother's Day!

"A full reward be given you by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge."  Ruth 2:12

In the bible Ruth and her mother-in-law Naomi were in need of protection. Because they were widows they had to glean the fields that had been harvested and Ruth needed to find a close relative of her late  husband to marry so she could carry on the family line.Boaz was such a man and he was deeply touched by Ruth's care of her mother-in-law Naomi. Ruth cared for this woman without thought of herself. The story of Ruth is a love story. She herself was a heathen girl who married the son of Elimench and Naomi. Unfortunately both father and son perished and Ruth found herself alone with Naomi. But she had grown to love this woman and cared for her. Ruth came to know that God was the only true God and she became a believer.  Boaz, was the son of Rahab a former prostitute in the pagan city of  Jericho. Ruth never knew the God of Isarael as a child and she married Boaz. She grew to love and cherish the Lord. They had a son named Obed, who was the father of Jesse who became the father of David. Isn't it interesting that Jesus Christ our savior came from this interesting line!

I thought this would be a nice Mother's Day post as well showing the unconditional love of Ruth for her mother-in-law and it is fitting for Spiritual Sunday. Thank you for listening.

I love that our savior came from this line of not so perfect people. Such a blessed reminder that God can use anybody who submits to him and chooses to obey. Happy Mother's Day.

I've always loved reading from the book of Ruth. I find it interesting that when Matthew lists the geneology of Jesus, he lists only five women - Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and of course Mary. With the exception of Mary, these women had a less than ideal past, but God chose them to be in His son's geneological line.

Thank you for sharing this today, and have a Happy Mother's Day. I appreciate your heartfelt comments about my Mother's poem.

Blessings,
Joan
